Self and Family Care Symptom Management for Persons with HIV/AIDS

 A Secure the Future Funded Research Project

The “Self and Family Care Symptom Management Strategies for Persons with HIV and AIDS” project is a collaborative effort including 5 University Nursing Departments: the University of Botswana, the National University of Lesotho, the University of South Africa (UNISA), the University of Swaziland and the University of California. The Principal Investigator of the Project, Professor William Holzemer is based at the University of California, Department of Community Health Systems, School of Nursing. Prof. Holzemer has widely published in the field of symptom management in the context of HIV/AIDS. One of the research instruments, which were used in this study, has been evaluated and validated internationally. The UCSF Symptom Guidelines have been compiled under his direction.

The Nursing Department of the University of Botswana, University of California and UNISA (South Africa) are WHO Collaborating Centers. National team leader for Botswana is Dr. Naomi Seboni, national team leader for Lesotho is Dr. Lucy Makoae, national team leader for South Africa is Dr. Sarie Human (initially it was Prof. Laetitia King) and national team leader for Swaziland is Dr. Nonhlanhla Sukati.
